2010-02-08 - TBS has not yet officially decided on a sequel or movie for the popular drama series "JIN," but lead actor Takao Osawa (41) is already set to star in another historical piece - "Sakuradamongai no Hen" by director Junya Sato ("YAMATO").
Based on the novel of the same name by Akira Yoshimura, the movie retells the story of the Sakuradamon incident in 1860, in which the Chief Minister Ii Naosuke was assassinated at the gate of Edo Castle. Osawa has been cast as Seki Tetsunosuke, a samurai of the Mito domain who led the assassination.
A large-scale open set was constructed for the film in the city of Mito, Ibaraki, reproducing the Sakuradamon gate where the incident took place. Shooting has already started and is expected to end in late March. The film's budget is estimated to be about 1 billion yen.
Osawa's supporting cast includes Masatou Ibu (66) as Ii Naosuke and Kinya Kitaooji (66) as Tokugawa Nariaki. Toei plans to release the movie nationwide in October.
