In the year 2009 a lay judge system, in which selected voluntary lay judges help deciding the outcome of criminal cases, is introduced to Japanese courts. In a murder case, in which a young woman is accused of killing her lover, eight of these lay judges are used. The case is known as "The witch Trial" in the media. Tooru Yoshioka is one of the lay judges, but after the trial had begun, strange things happen around him and the other members of the jury. With some help from his girlfriend Kaori, a newspaper reporter, who is also writing a story about the murder case, he gets to know some cases in which lay judges were blackmailed or bribed. He notices in an early state, that this is also happening to him and his colleagues. Will he be able to shut down these malicious acts, that are going on behind the scenes of the "Witch Trial"?
